Not sure how to download?

August 6, 2018.

A new version 1.2 of Icon Shepherd utility is available now for download! In this update, we are introducing the option to purchase licenses for business use and remove ads displayed by the software. If you don't mind the ads, you are still free to use Icon Shepherd on one private computer at your home, free of charge. For other uses, an appropriate license must be purchased.

This update also adds the capability to change some options for Icon Shepherd:

The Options screen of Icon Shepherd 1.2

  • Restore last used icon layout on start

If you select this option, then when Icon Shepherd starts to work (whether launched by you or started automatically when you log in to Windows), it will automatically restore the last used icon layout. The last used icon layout is the one that you restored most recently. (Icon Shepherd assumes that that's how you want to keep your icons).
  • Maximum number of layouts to remember

By default, Icon Shepherd remembers the last 25 icon layouts. This option allows you to change this number (between 1 and 100).
  • Check for updates

Use this option to control how often Icon Shepherd should check for updates.

  1. We’ve moved from one PC to another and want to take icon shepherd (and the layout) to another machine – is that possible ?

  2. Steve: Yes, you can move the layouts to a different machine using the Registry Editor tool of Windows. First, export the following key into a file:

Then import that file into the new computer. Hope this helps!

  3. Looks like a great program. I am pleased to try it out. Should work very well, from what I have been told.

  4. Is it possible to downgrade from the latest version? Now that align to grid is mandatory, I just can’t get it working right again anymore.

  5. Martin: please download the new update 19.10.2 we’ve just released, it no longer requires ‘Align to grid’ to be enabled. If you continue to experience this problem with the new version, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

  6. i have 4 screens on my system. Does icon shepherd remember the icon location for each screen or just one screen – the main or #1 designated screen?

  7. James Nolen: Icon Shepherd remembers icons on all screens. Please feel free to download it and give it a try.

  8. does NOT work for my two screens.
Are there any caveats about using with two screens that are different resolutions and size.
Tends to put 2nd screen icons into ‘main’ screen and scrambles it all.
    Downloaded 2020

  9. Peter: Make sure you are using the latest version of IconShepherd, it supports multiple screens. If you are still experiencing the problem, please contact us (using the Help – Contact Us link at the top of this page) with the details of your screen resolutions and scaling factors, and we will investigate.
