You can use this page to set up a special screen saver that would end the session (that is, logoff the user, restart or shutdown the computer, etc. ) after a period of user inactivity. This page contains the following areas:
When this option is checked, it activates the ActiveExit screensaver feature for all users of the computer. Note that if a user had a regular screensaver set up for his or her account, that regular screensaver will no longer be active, and Control Panel will show that no screensaver is used. However, if you clear this option (or even uninstall ActiveExit) the regular screensaver settings for each user will be restored to what they were before.
Enter the number of minutes to wait for user's inactivity before performing the action.
If this option is selected, ActiveExit will display a confirmation window informing the user of the action it is about to take, and optionally giving the user an opportunity to cancel it. To configure the confirmation window, click on the Configure button next to the option.
If this option is selected, ActiveExit screensaver will end the Windows session even if the user has open documents that have not been saved onto the disk. This may cause the loss of changes the user might have made to the documents s/he was working with! If this option is not selected, and there are documents with pending changes, ActiveExit will prompt the user to save them before ending the Windows session.
(This option is not available on Windows 95)
If this option is selected, ActiveExit protects the screensaver settings in the Windows registry from modifications by the user: The user will not be able to change the screensaver settings manually using the Display command of Control Panel, or by any other means. You would be able to change such settings using the ActiveExit configuration utility only. (Note that if you use Windows Me/98/95, you should also use the Protect System.ini file with the "read-only" attribute option described below as well.) We recommend to enable this option, unless you use some alternative method of restricting user access to the screensaver settings.
(This option is not necessary and therefore not available on Windows NT, 2000, and XP)
If this option is selected, ActiveExit will assign the "read-only" attribute to the file System.ini, where Windows 95/98/Me keeps information about the currently active screen saver. This should prevent the user from setting up a different screensaver with the Display command of Control Panel. You would still be able to change, enable or disable the ActiveExit screensaver using the ActiveExit configuration utility.
We recommend to enable this option, unless you use some alternative method of restricting user access to the System.ini file, or if this option causes problems with other programs which need to be able to modify the System.ini file. Note that this protection is very weak: a knowledgeable user could manually remove the "read-only" attribute from the System.ini file, and be able to modify its contents. To stop such an attack, consider using dedicated file security software such as Folder Guard.
